Daily Express Building

120 Fleet Street

London EC4A

1930-2

Sir Evan Owen Williams / Ellis & Clarke

Linocut   372 x 560 mm.

Edition of 100

A fine example of Art Deco architecture, its curved black vitrolite panels (a type of glass) and chrome trim give the building a streamlined, modernist appearance which must have shocked (and hopefully delighted) people when it was first built in the 1930’s.

Private Eye nicknamed the building ‘The Black Lubyanka’ when it was the home of the Daily Express. Following extensive refurbishment and alteration it is now offices for Goldman Sachs.
